If there’s one thing that’s true about Steamboat Springs, it’s that this charming mountain town is never short of fun activities for the whole family. However, it’s possible that all of the adrenaline-fuelled adventures and high altitudes get a little overwhelming day after day. But don’t panic! Your vacation hasn’t reached an early end.
For a gentler-paced day with the kids, that still gives them a chance to burn some of their boundless energy, Steamboat is home to a plethora of indoor kids activities. Whether it’s mud season, or simply too hot out, our carefully curated list of indoor play spaces will provide your family with the perfect way to keep the Steamboat fun going.
Free Kids Yoga at Bud Werner Memorial Library
Not only is the Bud Werner Memorial Library a must-see historical sight in Steamboat Springs, it’s also a bustling community hub offering family-friendly events almost every day of the year!

This unique storytelling session features a new story every week, accompanied by yoga and movement activities that will have your child feeling energized and engaged with the story!
Kids aged three to five years old, and their trusted adults, are welcome to enjoy this session led by certified Yoga teacher Taylor Reardon. There’s no need to bring any special equipment, just wear comfy clothes and bring a drink to rehydrate after the session. Spaces are on a first come, first served basis.
Creative Play at Kids Garden
This charming drop-in learning center provides children as young as one year old with the opportunity to explore a variety of creative play areas. Kids Garden is a fantastic place to safely leave your children if you want to explore Steamboat’s independent boutiques, take a day for yourself to explore nature, or need a quiet hour to get some work done.
Children can access a vibrant preschool curriculum on weekday mornings. These sessions are by reservation only, for children aged three to five years old. During this special, structured session, the staff encourage the children to learn through exploration, using natural materials and inspiration from the outside world.
In the afternoons, drop-in sessions are open to children aged one year old to 12. These sessions are full of fun, snacks, play, and structured creative workshops for kids over four.
If you’re hoping to plan a romantic meal with your partner, or fancy trying your hand at night-skiing, Kids Garden offers five hours of supervised play on the second Saturday of every month. That’s right, it’s ‘Parent’s Night Out’! From 4p.m. through 9p.m., your kids can enjoy games, themed crafts, pizza, and plenty of space to play.

A Touch of Nostalgia at Steamboat Fun and Games
Get the whole family together to rediscover the magic of nostalgic games at this unique store. At Steamboat Fun and Games, the walls are stacked high with games, toys, and puzzles. There’s not a corner of this building that isn’t packed with colorful delights.
The real magic of this store is found in the gleaming arcade section. Neon lights glow from each classic arcade machine, inviting you and your kids to wile away the hours shooting hoops, driving race cars, and hitting air hockey pucks!
The excitement doesn’t have to end once you leave the store. The dedicated staff team will be delighted to help you and your young companions find the perfect board game (and candy) to take back to your vacation home. Playing board games together with your kids is guaranteed to be a major highlight when you look back on your vacation in Steamboat Springs.

Families of all ages are invited to daily public skate sessions at Howelsen Ice Arena. Whether you’re vacationing in Steamboat in the summer or winter, ice skating is a year-round activity that can be enjoyed within a cool air conditioned building!
But, the fun doesn’t stop there. What if the best fairground ride from your teenage years was given a Colorado twist? That’s exactly the kind of old school fun available at Howelsen Ice Arena.
‘Bumper Cars on Ice’ is an activity that is suitable for children as young as three years old (accompanies by an adult), but is an especially popular pastime for teenagers.
