There is never a shortage of family-friendly events in Steamboat Springs in November. This is the month when the holiday season starts coming to life and the town begins transitioning to a winter wonderland.

Not to mention, one of the most exciting events of the year (we think!) takes place in November – Steamboat Resort Opening Day!

This is the time to start planning your vacation to Steamboat Springs and getting ready to enjoy another spectacular year creating memories in the divine Champagne SnowⓇ. 

Festival of Trees

Visit the 30th Annual Festival of Trees at the Tread of Pioneers Museum this November. 

Marvel at the beautifully decorated holiday trees creatively decorated by local businesses, organizations, and individuals. This year the museum will have over 25 trees all adorned with twinkling lights and glittering ornaments. 

Wander through the magical forest as you cast a vote for your favorite tree and search for the hidden golden keys in each display. 

This event is free to all local residents and is the regular admission price for guests. This is the primary fundraiser for the museum and the proceeds all go toward exhibit preservation and educational programs. 

On November 16, 2024, join the free Pioneer Christmas Storytime at 11 a.m. to learn about the Christmas traditions of the Victorians and local pioneer families. This event is suitable for ages 4 and up. 

Location: Tread of Pioneers Museum

Date: November 15, 2024 – November 30, 2024, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Price: Free for Routt County residents and regular admission prices for visitors

 

Steamboat Mountain Film Festival

See the movie ski pros and mountain-top thrill-seekers have been waiting for. Calm Beneath Castles is a breathtaking film that displays the heart, mind, and soul of the world’s best skiers. 

It features stunning cinematography and takes viewers on a journey that delves into the skiers’ passion for the sport and endless quest to be one with the mountain.

This two-night showing directly benefits all STARS programs and helps the dedicated staff create more opportunities for everyone to experience the joy of sport. 

As one of the beloved organizations we support at The Astrid, Steamboat STARS truly makes a difference in the community. By providing adaptive recreational sports for people living with disabilities, they break down barriers and show the “power of possible”.

Date: November 1 and 2, 2024. Showtimes are 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Steamboat Resort Opening Day

One of the most anticipated days of the year is finally here! 

Starting bright and early at 7:30 a.m., the Opening Day festivities include:

  • Complimentary Powder Day Donuts and Korbel Mimosas
  • Ohana T-shirts and Smartwool socks for the first 100 riders in line
  • Prizes hidden on the mountain throughout the day 

And of course, no Opening Day would be complete without ringing the Champagne PowderⓇ Snow Bell to officially begin the ski season here in Steamboat Springs!

Location: Steamboat Resort

Date: November 23, 2024. Activities begin at 7:30 a.m. and the resort opens at 8:30 a.m.

Price: Various ski passes are accepted 

 

Steamboat Springs Turkey Trot

Dress in your cold weather gear or don a Thanksgiving Day costume and join the fun run that has become one of Steamboat’s favorite Thanksgiving traditions. 

The Turkey Trot is a family-friendly 5K course benefiting the Steamboat Springs High School Track and Field and Cross Country programs.

The race starts at Steamboat Springs High School, winds out of town to Strawberry Park, and finishes back at the high school for an awards ceremony. 

Location: Steamboat Springs High School

Date: November 28, 2024, 9:30 a.m.

Price: Adults – $25, Youth (11-17) – $20, Children (6-10) – $10, Children under 5 are free
