Welcome to Bike Town USAⓇ
Since its first Gold status award as a Bicycle Friendly Community back in 2011, Steamboat has taken cycling to a new level. The League of American Bicyclists recognizes communities for their commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure, and pro-cycling policies.
Mountain Biking in Steamboat Springs has become a way of life for the local community. People cycle to work and school, they bike for exercise, and for the pure joy of experiencing the stunning Rocky Mountain landscape they are proud to live in.
Additionally, The International Mountain Bicycling Association has awarded Steamboat Bike Town with the distinction of a Silver Ride Center. This recognizes the pinnacle of mountain biking communities.
From large-scale facilities, to a variety of trails, to ways to enjoy your time off-bike – mountain biking in Steamboat Springs is a full experience for every type of rider.
The Fall season in Steamboat is the ultimate time to head out on the trails for some of the best mountain biking in Colorado. Looking out across the mountainous vista and listening to the autumn breeze make its way through the golden Aspens creates a magical view and soundtrack to accompany you on your journey.
Here are some of our favorite trails:
Emerald Mountain
This is home to Steamboat’s first web of singletrack. Featuring 30 miles of dirt trails, this leads you through winding wildflower meadows and golden Aspen groves.
Though the trails here are mainly catered to intermediate riders, kids and beginner riders will also be able to tackle some of the easier trails in this loop. There is also a BMX park at the base of the mountain for those daredevils in your family.
Located in the Howelsen Hill Ski Area near the downtown core, this trail is easily accessible from your home at The Astrid. You’re also near all the best restaurants and breweries so you will have an array of options to rest and replenish after a day of touring. Why not try Creekside Cafe for a hearty breakfast, Mountain Tap Brewery for a pint of craft beer, or some of the finest beef in town at E3 Chophouse.
Flash of Gold
This is one of many great trails located in the Buffalo Pass area, just outside of Steamboat Springs.
You’ll have a panoramic view of the changing fall leaves and sparkling lakes from this trail – it’s called “Flash of Gold” for a good reason!
This trail is recommended for intermediate riders, but younger riders will enjoy the easy sections of this trail. If it’s too much, there are plenty of other trails starting at the same location so it’s easy to change your course.
This is a longer route, averaging about 4 hours to complete the round trip. There is a modest elevation gain to provide a more challenging cycle for experienced and novice riders alike.
Spring Creek Trail
Ideal for beginner and intermediate riders, this trail is a highlight for many who come mountain biking in Steamboat Springs.
This popular trail begins in town and follows the winding Spring Creek, leading you on a gentle climb for 3 miles. Once you’ve completed the climb, take the newly added Spring Roll – a downhill-only, bike-only trail that descends from the top of the Spring Creek Trail.
This ride will take you right back into the heart of Steamboat, so you are in the perfect position to partake in one of the local restaurants’ Happy Hours. We love the warm and welcoming patio at Aurum Food & Wine and smoked and cured meats at The Laundry are delicious.
Steamboat Bike Park
At the base of Steamboat Ski Resort, you’re in for a treat during the warmer months. The mountain is transformed into a mountain biker’s paradise. With over 50 miles of meticulously designed trails, there is something to suit every skill level of rider.
Wide dirt tracks lead through the golden Aspens, fast-flow trails show off their dirt launches, and downhill trails beckon the adrenaline seekers. Choose to ride up the mountain on your bike or take the scenic ride on the gondola.
Steamboat Bike Park offers lessons to brush up on your technical skills and bike rentals are available if you want to test out a different bike style for one of your rides.
