What’s So Special About Steamboat Springs?

At its heart, Steamboat Springs was, and always will be, a functioning ranching town. In 1909, the introduction of a railroad ignited a boom for the commercial industry in Steamboat Springs, propelling the city towards being one of the largest cattle shipping centers of the West.

To this day, ranching makes up one-third of Steamboat’s economy. Unlike many other ski destinations in Colorado, Steamboat Springs doesn’t lose its vibrancy in the summer months. Instead, this real town, with real people – boasts one of the most authentic mountainside communities you’ll ever encounter. It’s not simply a vacation destination. For many, Steamboat Springs is a lifestyle.

The Start of a Slopeside Story

Myles and Terrell Sherman

Over ten years ago, Myles and Terrell Sherman purchased their home in Steamboat Springs and embarked on the adventurous – yet welcoming lifestyle unique to Steamboat Springs.

To the Sherman family, Steamboat was never just a simple ski town somewhere in Colorado…

The family made many precious memories in the heart of Steamboat Springs, from the birth of grandkids in the nearby hospital, daily visits to the historic library, life-long friendships formed over exercise classes, and, most noteworthy of all, their daughter’s wedding day celebrated right within the walls of their home.

Steamboat was solidified as somewhere of profound significance for the Shermans. It became a home to connect with loved ones, a destination for relaxation and adventure, a haven of cherished memories, and a place to build a legacy that would be passed down through the generations.

In 2021, the $220MM base area redevelopment and on-mountain improvement project ‘Full Steam Ahead’ began, helping to secure Steamboat as one of the top resort destinations in the world. With physical and emotional ties to the city, Myles wanted his family to play a significant role in this transformation and contribute to the incredible evolution of Steamboat Springs.

How The Astrid Compliments Steamboat’s Historic Legacy

The Steamboat ski resort’s multi-million dollar makeover has seen the expansion of skiable terrain, the creation of a world-class learning center, and a wholly reimagined base area. The amenities at the Steamboat ski resort will soon match the renowned reputation of the Champagne Powder® snow that can only be found in our small corner of Colorado.

Myles Sherman noticed the opportunity to combine the historic Western hospitality of the town with the groundbreaking improvements to the resort, by building a remarkable community of luxury ski-in, ski-out vacation homes in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Not wanting to miss the chance to be part of Steamboat history, the Shermans secured the largest parcel of ski-in, ski-out land on the mountain two days before it was even publicly listed.

That parcel of land is now known as The Astrid.
